Zombie turbulence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010329

A theoretical concept describing a type of turbulence that can persist in stratified fluids even after the initial forcing mechanism has ceased. This turbulence is sustained by internal gravity waves and can contribute to mixing in the ocean and atmosphere. It is a subject of ongoing research in geophysical fluid dynamics.
