Abnormal pressure

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000002

Subsurface formation fluid pressure that deviates significantly from the normal hydrostatic pressure gradient, which is typically about 0.465 psi per foot of depth. Overpressure occurs when formation pressure exceeds hydrostatic, while underpressure is below it. Abnormal pressures pose drilling challenges and require careful management to prevent well control incidents.
