Accelerator
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000018
A cement additive that shortens the thickening and setting time of a slurry so it develops strength sooner, used where low temperature makes cement set slowly. Calcium chloride is the most common, added at about 2 to 4 percent by weight of cement. Too much accelerator can leave too little time to pump the slurry into place.
