Aulacogen

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000213

A failed rift arm that extends inland from a triple junction, where continental rifting has occurred. These linear depressions are characterized by thick sedimentary infills and can become sites of hydrocarbon accumulation due to favorable source rock and reservoir development. The Benue Trough in West Africa is an example of an aulacogen.
