Capillary suction time test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000536
A laboratory test that times how long the liquid from a sample takes to move a fixed distance through filter paper by capillary suction, measured between two electrodes. In drilling fluid work it is run on slurries of shale or clay in a test fluid to judge shale reactivity and how readily the solids dewater. Finely dispersed, poorly inhibited clay clogs the paper and gives a longer time, while flocculated or inhibited solids give a shorter time.
