Cathead

A rotating drum or spool on the drawworks of a drilling rig, used to provide power for pulling ropes and lines. It operates by friction, allowing a driller to control the tension and speed of a line wrapped around it. There are two main types: the breakout cathead for unscrewing pipe and the make-up cathead for tightening connections.
