Compton scattering
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000793
An inelastic scattering process where a photon interacts with an electron, resulting in a decrease in the photon's energy and a change in its direction. This phenomenon is the primary interaction mechanism for gamma rays in the energy range used by density logging tools. The amount of Compton scattering is directly related to the electron density of the formation.
