Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000819

Describing sediments or rocks that have been compacted and cemented into a solid, coherent mass. This process, known as lithification, involves the reduction of pore space and the precipitation of minerals between grains, binding them together. Consolidated rocks, such as sandstone or limestone, are generally stronger and more resistant to erosion than unconsolidated sediments.
