Desander
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001028
A piece of solids control equipment that uses one or more hydrocyclones to remove sand-sized particles from drilling fluid. It operates by pumping the mud tangentially into a conical vessel, creating a vortex that forces heavier solids to the outside wall and downward for discharge, while cleaner fluid exits from the top. Desanders are installed after the shale shakers and before the desilters, processing the entire circulating mud volume to remove particles in the 40 to 74 micron range.
