Dielectric permittivity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001063
A measure of a material's ability to store electrical energy when subjected to an electric field, indicating how easily it polarizes. In formation evaluation, it reflects the water content of rocks, as water has a significantly higher dielectric permittivity than hydrocarbons or rock matrix. This property is measured in farads per meter (F/m).
