Dielectric propagation log
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001064
A formation evaluation measurement that determines the dielectric constant of the formation by measuring the propagation time and attenuation of a high-frequency electromagnetic wave. Because water has a much higher dielectric constant than hydrocarbons or rock matrix, the tool is highly sensitive to water content. The measurement operates at frequencies in the gigahertz range and is used to calculate water saturation independently of water salinity.
