Relative dielectric constant
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003093
A dimensionless quantity that describes the ability of a material to store electrical energy in an electric field, relative to the permittivity of a vacuum. In formation evaluation, it reflects the water saturation and porosity of reservoir rocks, as water has a significantly higher dielectric constant than oil or gas. This property is measured by dielectric logging tools operating at microwave frequencies.
