Drilling detergent
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004298
A chemical additive used in drilling fluids to reduce surface tension and improve the wetting properties of the fluid. It aids in preventing bit balling and the sticking of drill pipe by keeping solids dispersed and reducing their adherence to metal surfaces. These detergents are typically surfactants that alter the interfacial properties of the fluid.
