Epithermal neutron porosity measurement

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001312

A logging technique that measures the concentration of hydrogen in a formation by detecting epithermal neutrons that have been slowed down by collisions with hydrogen atoms. This measurement provides an estimate of porosity, as hydrogen is primarily found in the pore fluids (water and hydrocarbons). Unlike thermal neutron measurements, it is less affected by the presence of chlorine in saline formation waters.
