Thermal neutron porosity measurement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003808
A logging technique that determines formation porosity by measuring the concentration of hydrogen atoms, which are primarily found in pore fluids. A neutron source emits fast neutrons, which are slowed down to thermal energies and then detected. The count rate of thermal neutrons is inversely related to the hydrogen index, and thus to porosity.
