Formate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001530
A salt of formic acid, used as a drilling fluid additive to provide density and shale inhibition. Formate brines, such as cesium formate, potassium formate, and sodium formate, are high-density, low-viscosity fluids that are environmentally acceptable. They are often employed in high-pressure, high-temperature wells to maintain wellbore stability and minimize formation damage.
