Humping
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001881
A pressure anomaly in a buildup test in which the recorded pressure rises above the level it will finally reach and then falls back, leaving a hump on the pressure plot. It results from phase redistribution in the wellbore after shut-in, as gas rises and liquid falls and the pressure at the gauge changes. The hump distorts the early buildup data and can be mistaken for reservoir behaviour.
