Hydraulic release tool
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001899
A downhole component that disconnects from a packer or other tool by applying hydraulic pressure from the surface. The tool is designed with an internal piston that shears a pin or shifts a sleeve when the tubing pressure reaches a predetermined value, unlatching it from the equipment below. This mechanism provides a method of retrieval if the primary mechanical release fails, and it does not require pipe rotation to function.
