Inertial resistance
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001973
The opposition to fluid flow through porous media that arises from the acceleration and deceleration of the fluid as it navigates tortuous pore paths. This resistance becomes more pronounced at higher flow rates, where the kinetic energy of the fluid particles contributes to pressure drop beyond viscous effects. It is often quantified by a non-Darcy flow coefficient in reservoir engineering calculations.
