Lamination

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002118

A small-scale sequence of thin layers, or laminae, occurring in sedimentary rocks, where each layer is less than one centimeter thick. These layers are distinguished by variations in grain size, mineralogy, or organic material content. The presence and type of lamination provide clues about the depositional environment, such as the energy of water currents or the presence of seasonal cycles.
