Lowstand systems tract
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002233
The package of sediments deposited during a period of falling and low sea level, from the onset of a relative sea-level fall until the next rise begins. These deposits include basin-floor fans, slope fans, and prograding wedges that form as rivers extend across the exposed continental shelf. The lowstand systems tract is bounded below by a sequence boundary and above by a transgressive surface, and it contains some of the world's largest deepwater hydrocarbon reservoirs.
