MMH
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002399
An abbreviation for mixed-metal hydroxide, a synthetic layered compound, typically magnesium aluminium hydroxide, with positively charged platelets. In water muds it combines with bentonite to form a strongly shear-thinning gel that carries cuttings in large-diameter and horizontal holes. The system supplies viscosity and gel strength but not filtration control, which comes from added polymers.
