Partitioning

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002712

The distribution of a chemical substance between two immiscible phases, such as oil and water, in a reservoir. This phenomenon is particularly relevant in enhanced oil recovery processes involving surfactants or solvents, where the injected chemicals distribute between the oil and aqueous phases. The partitioning coefficient quantifies this distribution.
