Phase velocity log
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002773
A production log that records the velocity of an individual fluid phase, usually oil or water, moving in a flowing well. One common method ejects marker fluids carrying a neutron-absorbing compound such as gadolinium into each phase and times their arrival at a pulsed-neutron capture detector a known distance away. Velocity is the ejector to detector spacing divided by the travel time, and gas velocity is not measured this way.
