Principal component analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002941
A statistical procedure that transforms a set of possibly correlated variables into a set of linearly uncorrelated variables called principal components. This technique reduces the dimensionality of complex datasets while retaining most of the variance. In reservoir characterization, PCA can be applied to well log data or seismic attributes to identify underlying patterns and reduce noise.
