Stationarity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003598

A statistical property of a stochastic process where its statistical characteristics, such as mean, variance, and autocorrelation, do not change over time or space. In geostatistical modeling, assuming stationarity simplifies the estimation of spatial correlation structures like variograms. Many geostatistical methods require at least second-order stationarity, where the mean and variance are constant.
