Radioactive-tracer log
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003037
A production logging method in which a small amount of gamma-emitting tracer is ejected into the wellbore fluid and followed with gamma ray detectors. The tracer's movement shows flow velocity, identifies producing or injecting intervals and detects fluid channeling behind casing. Typical tracers are iodine-131, iridium-192 and scandium-46; tritium emits only beta particles, so a gamma ray detector cannot track it.
