The characteristic waveform or pattern of a seismic source, such as an air gun or vibrator, as it propagates through the near-surface. This waveform is recorded and analyzed to understand the source's energy output and frequency content. Deconvolution techniques often use the source signature to remove its effects from the recorded seismic data.
