Gas chimney
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001614
A vertical column of disturbed seismic reflections and attenuated amplitudes in seismic data, interpreted as a pathway for gas migration from a deeper source rock to shallower formations or the seafloor. These features often indicate the presence of hydrocarbons at depth. Gas chimneys are identified by their characteristic seismic signature, including amplitude blanking and velocity push-down.
