Automatic gain control
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000219
A processing step that automatically adjusts the amplitude of seismic traces to balance weak and strong signals. The function boosts the amplitude of later, weaker reflections that have been attenuated by traveling longer distances through the earth, while reducing the amplitude of strong, early arrivals. AGC is applied using a sliding time window, and the gain factor is calculated based on the average absolute amplitude within that window.
