AGC
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000071
A processing function, Automatic Gain Control, that adjusts the amplitude of seismic traces to compensate for the natural decay of signal strength with time and distance. It boosts the amplitude of weak, late-arriving reflections from deep geologic layers and reduces the strength of powerful, early arrivals, making the entire seismic section more interpretable. AGC is applied either in the recording instrument or during digital data processing, using a time window of a specified length to calculate the scaling factor.
