Afterflow

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000070

The continued flow of fluids into the wellbore from the reservoir after the wellhead valves have been closed, due to the compression of fluids in the wellbore and near-wellbore region. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable during pressure buildup tests, where the wellbore storage effect masks the true reservoir response in the early-time data. Afterflow can significantly prolong the time required to reach true reservoir pressure.
