Sinc x
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003421
The function sin(x) divided by x, or in normalized form sin(pi x) divided by pi x, which is the Fourier transform of a rectangular pulse and the reverse. A box-shaped frequency spectrum therefore corresponds to a sinc-shaped waveform in time, with a central peak and side lobes that decay slowly and alternate in sign. Interpolating sampled seismic data with sinc functions reconstructs a band-limited signal exactly, which is the content of the sampling theorem.
