Skid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003435
The lateral displacement of a towed marine seismic streamer from the direct line behind the vessel, caused by cross-currents or vessel turning. This positioning error affects the assumed location of the hydrophones and must be accounted for during data processing. Skid is measured in meters and is monitored using acoustic positioning networks or GPS units attached along the streamer.
