Timed slug analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003850
An interpretation method for radioactive tracer logs in which the time taken by an ejected tracer slug to move a measured distance gives the fluid velocity in the wellbore. Multiplying velocity by the flow area of the pipe gives the flow rate at that depth, and repeating the measurement at successive depths in an injection well shows where fluid leaves the wellbore. The tracer follows the bulk fluid, so it does not separate oil, water and gas rates.
