Bottleneck
Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000041
A point in a manufacturing process where the flow of work-in-progress is limited, causing queues and reducing the overall throughput of the production line. This constraint is determined by the process step with the lowest capacity or longest cycle time relative to other steps. For example, a specific lithography stepper or metrology tool with high demand and long processing times can become a fab's bottleneck.
