Photomask
Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000247
A transparent plate, typically made of quartz, with an opaque pattern of chromium or other material that defines the circuit features to be transferred onto a semiconductor wafer. This master template acts like a stencil, blocking or transmitting light during the photolithography process. Each layer of an integrated circuit requires a unique photomask, which are manufactured with extreme precision.
