Silicon on insulator
Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000311
A semiconductor manufacturing technology that involves fabricating integrated circuits on a layered substrate consisting of a thin layer of silicon, an insulating layer (typically silicon dioxide), and a thicker silicon support wafer. The buried oxide layer electrically isolates devices, reducing parasitic capacitance. SOI wafers are used in high-performance and low-power applications, offering improved device speed and reduced leakage current compared to bulk silicon.
