Sapphire substrate
Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000291
A wafer made from single-crystal aluminum oxide (Al2O3), used as a base material for growing epitaxial layers of other semiconductors. Its high thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and transparency make it suitable for specific applications. Sapphire substrates are commonly used for gallium nitride (GaN) based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and radio frequency (RF) devices.
