Retraction
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000330
The process in material extrusion additive manufacturing where the print head briefly pulls back the filament to prevent oozing or stringing when moving between different sections of a print. This temporary reversal of filament feed stops molten plastic from leaking onto areas where it is not intended. Proper retraction settings are determined by factors such as filament type, nozzle temperature, and travel speed.
