Absolute activation analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000046
A method of activation analysis where the mass of an analyte is determined directly from the measured activity without the use of a chemical standard. This calculation requires precise knowledge of all relevant physical parameters, including the neutron flux, irradiation and decay times, nuclear cross-sections, and detector efficiency. The technique contrasts with comparative activation analysis, which relies on irradiating a standard of known composition alongside the unknown sample.
