Acceptor number

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000099

A quantitative measure of the Lewis acidity of a solvent, reflecting its ability to accept electron density from a donor molecule. It is derived from the chemical shift of the 31P nucleus of triethylphosphine oxide in the solvent, relative to its shift in hexane. Higher acceptor numbers indicate stronger Lewis acidity.
