Donor number
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003384
An empirical parameter that quantifies the Lewis basicity or electron-donating ability of a solvent. It is defined as the negative enthalpy of reaction for the formation of a 1:1 adduct between the solvent and antimony pentachloride (SbCl5) in dilute 1,2-dichloroethane solution. Higher donor numbers indicate stronger Lewis bases.
