Donicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003380
A quantitative measure of the Lewis basicity of a solvent, representing its ability to donate an electron pair to a Lewis acid. It is defined by the negative enthalpy value, in kilocalories per mole, for the formation of a 1:1 adduct between the solvent and a standard Lewis acid, antimony pentachloride (SbCl₅), in a dilute solution of an inert solvent like 1,2-dichloroethane. For example, water has a donicity value of 18.0 kcal mol⁻¹.
