Donnan emf

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003381

The electromotive force (emf) that develops across a semipermeable membrane separating two electrolyte solutions, one of which contains a non-diffusible charged species. This potential arises from the unequal distribution of diffusible ions across the membrane at equilibrium. It is a consequence of the Donnan equilibrium and can be measured experimentally.
