Donnan exclusion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003383

The phenomenon where the concentration of mobile ions inside a charged membrane or gel differs from their concentration in the external solution. This occurs to maintain electroneutrality across the membrane, particularly when fixed charges are present within the membrane matrix. It is a key factor in ion-exchange processes and membrane separation.
