Anomers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000639
Diastereoisomers of cyclic monosaccharides or glycosides that differ in configuration only at the anomeric carbon atom, which is the carbon derived from the carbonyl carbon of the open-chain form. This carbon becomes a new chiral center upon cyclization. Anomers are designated as alpha (α) or beta (β) depending on the relative stereochemistry of the anomeric carbon and a reference chiral center.
