Anthocyanidins

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000655

A class of naturally occurring plant pigments that are the aglycones of anthocyanins, meaning they lack a sugar moiety. These compounds are polyhydroxy and polymethoxy derivatives of 2-phenylbenzopyrylium, also known as flavylium. Their color, which ranges from red to blue, depends on pH and substitution patterns.
