Astrogliosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000853
A reactive process of astrocytes in response to central nervous system injury, disease, or infection, characterized by their hypertrophy, proliferation, and increased expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). This cellular response contributes to the formation of an astrocytic scar, which can have both beneficial and detrimental effects on neural repair. It is a hallmark of many neurological disorders.
