Biogeochemical cycle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001271
The pathway through which a chemical substance or element moves through the biotic (biosphere) and abiotic (lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere) compartments of Earth. These cycles involve chemical transformations and transport processes driven by biological, geological, and chemical activity. The carbon cycle, for example, includes photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and the exchange of carbon dioxide between the atmosphere and oceans.
